General Information

Getting Here - Providenciales where Villa Camilla is located is a short, non-stop flight from Miami (American Airlines), Atlanta (Delta), and Charlotte and Philadelphia (U.S. Airways). Low-cost Spirit Airlines flies from Ft. Lauderdale. In addition, in winter American offers non-stop, 3 1/2 hour service from Boston and New York (JFK). British Air flies non-stop from London (Heathrow).

Climate - Tropical sunshine and island breezes are the prevailing weather conditions here. In the winter months, the weather is generally in the 70s - 80s (Fahrenheit), while the temperatures reach into the 90s during the summer. The island gets less than 50 inches of rainfall a year.

People & Language - The Turks and Caicos Island natives are mostly of African descent, having been brought in to work the salt pans or the cotton plantations. There is also a growing expatriate population from the U.S., Canada, France, the Bahamas, Hispaniola, and many other countries. As a British Crown colony, the official language of the islands is English although you will certainly hear other languages spoken here. Also in the tradition of the British Isles, you'll be expected to drive on the left!

What to Bring - Despite its growing international reputation as a sophisticated destination, Provo remains an informal island. You rarely see a tie or jacket and fancy dresses and high heels can be left at home. Just pack your bathing suit, beach cover-up, sunscreen, snorkeling equipment and a sweater for winter nights. Dress code for evenings is casual elegance. The electricity is 110 volt/60 cycle, suitable for U.S. appliances.

Entry Requirements & Customs Regulations - If you are traveling from the U.S. or Canada, don't forget your passport or birth certificate and a photo ID, or some other proof of citizenship for customs. Visitors from other countries must show a valid passport and a return airline ticket. Customs allows visitors to bring in one carton of cigarettes or cigars, one bottle of liquor and some perfume. There are no restrictions on bringing food or beverages onto the island although you may be asked to itemize them on your customs declaration. Firearms, spear guns, drugs and pornographic materials are forbidden and will be confiscated.

Time & Money - On this island paradise, time is very relaxed. If you do decide to wear your watch, set it to Eastern Time, then slow down to the pace of the tropics. The U.S. dollar is the official currency and credit cards are also widely accepted. You can cash travelers checks or use debit or credit cards to get cash at FirstCaribbean or Scotiabank on Leeward Highway.

Calling the Islands - The area code for the Turks and Caicos Islands is 649.
